Special Sessions
IEEE ITSS/SC Workshop: Automated Driving and Standardisation
Date: Monday, October 27, 2025
Time: 16:00-17:00
Chair/Moderator: Dr. Meng Lu (The Netherlands), Chair, IEEE ITSS Standards Committee & VP Standards and Industry Activities, IEEE ITSS
Recent developments in telecommunications, sensor, information processing and control technologies have enabled substantial progress in the domain of ITS. Automated driving is on the horizon, and will still need substantial and longer-term development and testing to make even the high automation levels a reality in complex situations. Cooperative and automated vehicles are expected to bring substantial benefits in terms of safety, comfort and (traffic and fuel) efficiency. The Workshop aims to discuss the technical challenges, potential solutions and standards. Two distinguished speakers from industry with strong R&D knowledge and experience will kick-off the workshop, and the participants are most welcome to join the discussions with the experts. The workshop will foster the interactive S/T knowledge exchange between academia and industry.
Invited Talks:
* Prof. Fernando GARCIA FERNANDEZ (Charles III University of Madrid, Spain): “Mobility Solutions Beyond the Autonomous Car”
* Dr. Javier IBANEZ-GUZMAN (Groupe Renault / Ampere Cars, France): “The Verification of Vehicles with High Levels of Automation: the Need for Standard Practice”
IEEE Student Chapter Panel: Career Pathways in Academia & Industry
Date: Monday, October 27, 2025
Time: 17:00-17:45
Chair: Yiting Wang, PGR (University of Warwick)
Co-Chair: Anima Rahman, PGR (University of Warwick)
This session aims to support PhD students, postdocs and early-career researchers in navigating career pathways between academia and industry. It will feature insights from professionals with diverse experiences, showcase different career pathways, and offer attendees a chance to engage directly with speakers during the Q&A networking sessions.
Topics: transitions, social impact, setbacks, transferable skills, and more.
Speakers: Prof. François Pomerleau, Karina Valverde, Gunny Dhadyalla, Dr. Kashif Siddiq
Bring your questions face-to-face with the leaders! Hope to see you soon!
AESIN Fireside Chat: Modelling and Simulation of In-Cabin Scenarios for Automated Vehicles
Date: Monday, October 27, 2025
Time: 17:45-18:15
Speakers: Dr. Graham Lee (Syselek) in conversation with Gunny Dhadyalla, Network Director (AESIN)
This fireside chat explores how modelling and simulation are transforming the understanding of in-cabin dynamics in automated vehicles. Dr. Graham Lee will discuss Syselek’s work in creating virtual environments to study driver and passenger behaviour, sensor integration, and human–machine interaction.
Topics include the use of digital twins for testing occupant monitoring systems, the integration of behavioural and physiological models, and the challenges of achieving realistic, data-driven simulations. The session will offer insights into how simulation supports design, validation, and certification of next-generation automated vehicles.
